The Arrival Of My First Natural Baby

Hello Beauties,

Hope this post finds you all very well. As my frequent readers will know, I was expecting a baby and this post is to announce that the baby arrived!!

So on the 19th August, I decided to make some hair products so at least I know I don't have to worry too much when the baby arrived and this made me stand on my feet for about six hours. After standing for that long, I thought my waters had gone. If I say my waters had gone it means the amniotic fluid that the baby lies in broke.

We went to the hospital and I was checked, only to realise my waters hadn't gone but apparently I was contracting which meant I was in labour. Meanwhile, I was due on the 22nd August but when my consultant realised I was in labour, he decided to keep me in at the hospital and have a caesarean section done the next day.

The labour became intense during the night but I had to wait till the following morning. So in the afternoon around 12pm, I was taken to the theatre to have the c-section done.

At exactly 12:31pm, all I heard was "it's a girl!" My hubby and I said "huh!" We said that because when we had our scan, the sonographer told us it was 95% boy, but we didn't want to believe it because within us we wanted a girl to climax the two boys we have already.

This was my first natural baby and miraculously got a baby girl to top it all. I am so grateful to God for this supernatural surprise.

Hope You Enjoyed Reading.

My Mint Tea Hair Rinse Experience

Hello Beauties,

Hope this post finds you well. This post is about how my experience with mint leaves went some weekends ago.

A few weeks ago, I decided to try another herbal hair rinse because to me, herbal hair rinses do 'the job', I mean herbs like chamomile, green tea, hibiscus and so on will 'add' to the hair after conditioning.

Hair rinses are usually the last rinses we add to our hair when we are done with conditioning. There are different types of hair rinses; protein, herbal, sealing, moisturising etc.

I use herbs because of the natural handmade products I make so please do not stress yourself too much looking for herbs to buy. Herbal tea bags are fine!!

Back to my mint leaves experience. Lol.
So I tried the mint leaves and after I fell deeply in love with it because not only did my hair get the minty smell but it felt so good and soft. Oh men!!!

*I used pre packed fresh mint leaves.

* After boiling some water (about 500ml -750ml)  I drop some leaves into it and let it stand for about 5-10 mins.

* I left it to cool and strained the infusion when I was ready to pour it on my hair after conditioning.

* After rinsing my hair with the mint tea, I wrapped my hair with an old cotton t-shirt to soak the water in my hair. My hair became soft and smelled really nice.

So Go On, Try The Mint Tea Hair Rinse and Share Your Experience With Us.

Hope this helped!!

DIY: Homemade Deep Conditioner Updated!

Hello Beauties,

Hope this post finds you well.

So, I decided to try out my DIY homemade deep treatment again after over a year of leaving it out of my regimen. The reason why I stopped using the natural yogurt was because whenever I used it my hair broke a bit.
During my last wash, I decided to use Greek yogurt and this time around I experienced the same reaction on my hair. I believe the proteins in the Greek yogurt are too strong for my hair that's why my hair was breaking so I am not going to try it again. I prefer to use my mild amino acids for my protein treatments.

As I always say to fellow beauties, everyone's hair is different so don't be afraid to try out new products or homemade recipes, if you try it and it doesn't work for you then at least you know you tried it.

'Nothing Ventured Nothing Gained'

The Recipe:
Natural Fat Free Yogurt- I used the Total brand which is enriched with the yogurt cultures and tons of protein.

2Tbs of Apple Cider Vinegar which helps to remove build-up.

Few Drops of an essential oil (EO) of your choice.

* The 'Total' brand of natural yogurt is very thick and creamy so about 3-4 scoops of it is fine.
* Add the apple cider vinegar(ACV)
* Add your essential oil

Mix all the ingredients and apply to the hair.
After the application, cover your hair with a shower cap for 30 mins.
I used my conditioning heat cap instead of using my body heat and that takes 30mins MAX.

Check out our online store: www.sheabeutimia.co.uk

Hope this helped!

Some Natural Remedies For Dandruff

Hello beauties,

Hope this post finds you well.

Well, this post has been long overdue so I decided to post it tonight come what may.

These are simple steps to take to overcome those itchy scalps and flakes.

1. Take 1/4 cup Apple Cider Vinegar and 1/4 cup Water. Mix in a spray bottle and apply on the scalp. Cover head with a plastic cap for 2 hours or with an old t-shirt overnight. Condition hair in the morning. Do this continuously for few days.

2. Melt 5tbsp of coconut oil in a bowl and add 5 drops pure tea tree oil to it. Massage into the scalp and leave it in overnight. Condition hair in the morning. This should be done continuously for few days as well.

3. Massage 2 tbsp of lemon juice into your scalp. Rinse your hair with water. Do this repeatedly until the dandruff is put at bay.

Please Note: Avoid harsh shampoos that contain sulphates, use an all natural type instead. Shampoo your hair once a month.

Doing this repeatedly gets rid of the fungus causing this condition.

Repairing Hair With Vitamin E Oil

Hello beauties,

Hope this post finds you well.
This is a short but great tip for repairing your hair.
Vitamin E is vital for the health of our heart, the same way it is to our hair. Vitamin E helps with the growth of hair by improving circulation, it also helps to prevent split ends by smoothing the hair cuticles and heals damaged hair.

Now The Tip!!
Vitamin E capsules are the cheapest way to go.

* You will need about 10 or more capsules of Vitamin E depending on how damaged your hair is.

* Break the capsule open with a pair of scissors and decant the gel into a small bowl.

* Apply the oil to the ends of your hair and also to the whole hair.

* Massage into your scalp and cover for about an hour but if you have a heat cap 30 minutes is the max.

* Shampoo with a sulphate free shampoo or a conditioner and style as usual.

This is a simple but effective way of repairing your hair.

Please Note: Vitamin E capsules are ideal because there are many adulterated Vitamin E Oils on the market. Natural vitamin e has a very thick consistency and very expensive so if that's not what you have then you have the non-natural type.

We at Sheabeutimia.co.uk use vitamin e oil in all of our products because we know how beneficial it is for your skin and hair.

Visit us today @ www.sheabeutimia.co.uk to shop for your hair and skin goodies.

Hope this helped!

What Is In Your Lip Balm????

Hello Beauties,

Very good to have a nice chat with you again. Hope you are well.

Today I will be talking about something very interesting; Lip balms!!

I know everyone loves his/ her lip balms but I don't think most of us have taken the time to check what is in our lip balms. It was the same with me, I never checked the ingredients in my lip balm until I decided to start checking everything I use; food, skin creams and hair creams and of course my lip balm.

The amazing thing is, I found the most talked about lip balm which I can't mention names, to contain petroleum and other chemicals which will in the end take moisture out of my lips.

That was when I decided to add lip balms to my Cosmetic Range.
At sheabeutimia, our lip balms contain natural ingredients like Jojoba Oil, Avocado Oil, Shea butter and many more.

All our products are FREE from mineral oil, parabens and silicones which take out moisture from the skin and hair.

Our Lip balms are unique because they are Fresh, Natural and Handmade with you in mind.

The ranges we have at the moment are found below:

Sheabeutimia peppermint Lip Balm
Sheabeutimia Rose Lip Balm

Sheabeutimia Strawberry Lip Balm

Stop by our store today on www.sheabeutimia.co.uk and shop for yourself and friends.

My First Natural Baby - The Roller Coasting Begins!!

Hello Beauties,

This is a continuation of my pregnancy diary! I know some have asked me to update it so I will as time goes on but please forgive me as studies and business isn't allowing me to write frequently.

So, throughout my 2 pregnancies I have been so strong and very active from beginning and especially the end part of the pregnancies. This pregnancy is so different that I couldn't sleep well in my first trimester. Everyday when I woke up I felt so nauseous and so sick I couldn't just sit up, I felt so weak and tired such that I had to sit down again when I stood up for a few minutes.

This situation put me in bed the whole of the Christmas season but I thank God hubby took care of the boys and took care of home as well though there were times when he couldn't multi-task as I do. Lol.
Our men need to be appreciated for the little they do because they are different from women; some are not so good with multi tasking.

It had been a long time since I got pregnant so I started researching into how I was feeling and the NHS Choice website gave me good tips on how to bring down the morning sickness:

*The first tip I tried to do is when I woke up, I took cream crackers about 1 or 2 before getting up.

*The second tip they suggested was to lie down for sometime before getting up.

These tips worked very well but the weakness still existed and especially after eating I just felt like throwing up the food.

Pregnancy and My Hair Care Regimen:

My hair care regimen changed drastically due to the fact that I could not bring myself to even spritzing my hair so I could go for three days without moisturising my hair. At first I felt so bad but I realised there was nothing I could do about it and as such the baby was more important so all that was needed was a good rest and the second trimester will come knocking at my door.

The second trimester is here and I am very grateful to God how things have turned around. You know I this is a pregnancy that I really saw the change between the first trimester and the second trimester. It's amazing how the body is able to change as the pregnancy grows.

At the moment, I am able to moisturise my hair frequently and even do the baggy method which I will share very soon. I deep condition weekly because my mini twists challenge ended.

To be Continued...

Hope you enjoyed this little piece.

So... I Gave Curlformers a Try!!

Hello Beauties,

Hope this post finds you well. Well with all the talk on YouTube about how these curlformers work wonders on curls, I finally decided to try them. I must say they rock especially with a good styling cream.

The Process:

To start with I oiled my hair the day before and co-washed it the following day. My hair was deep conditioned with the Sheabeutimia Hemp Moisturising Conditioner.

My hair rinse was an ACV rinse (Apple Cider Vinegar). Click on the link to know the measurements I use.

Since I really wanted to know the results on the Sheabeutimia Crambe Growth Cream with the curlformers, all I used on my hair was the Sheabeutimia Leave In Moisturising Conditioner and the Crambe Cream itself.

I must say my hair turned out really well as in softness and shine. My hair regimen has been very simple as well since getting pregnant because I can't get myself to do so much and my hair loves that.

* The hair doesn't dry so quickly unless you prefer to sit under a dryer. This depends on how damp the hair is though.

* If you could, please leave enough time for the hair to dry because sleeping in them can be terrible.

*They curled my hair so well and using my own brand; Sheabeutimia Crambe Growth Cream made my hair very soft and shiny.

* My hair was so manageable I could run my fingers through so easily.

Poor picture quality.

Did the fringe but changed to a simple pull back style
Products Used:
Conditioned with the Sheabeutimia Hemp Moisturising Conditioner.

Applied the Sheabeutimia Leave In Moisturising Conditioner

On a whole, I will give the Sheabeutimia Crambe Growth Cream and curlformers a big thumbs up!

Used the Sheabeutimia Crambe Growth Cream with the curlformers

Hope you enjoyed this post.

So... You Want To Go Natural? - A Guest Post by Kreamykurls

 Hello Beauties,

Hope this post finds you well. So I got a blogger friend of mine to guest post on transitioning. She has transitioned for quite a while and I thought it would be wonderful if she shared her experience with us.

"The natural hair community has made a tremendous impact on women across the world. Knowledge is definitely power and with the vast pool of resources such as YouTube  forums and blogs we all can have healthy hair. I started my hair journey November 2011 and that was my first attempt at "transitioning"; however, I jumped head first into doing so without doing any thorough research. After relaxing from my failed attempt I flooded myself with YouTube videos, the Curlynikki forum, and other hair care blogs. Are you playing with the thought of transitioning? Well here are a few pros and cons I've discovered while transitioning to natural hair.

1, You can slowly adjust to your natural texture
I'm unaware of other cultures but here in the Caribbean; some individuals have a stigma where a certain curl pattern is seen as good or pretty. Examples of these are loose wavy or spirally curls. Transitioning will grant the process of embracing one's hair. I can surely attest to this as I thought my texture wasn't "good".

2. Transitioning allows the mental acceptance of the natural appearance
On both attempts of transitioning I had difficulty accepting the the new natural look. It took a good couple of months for the adjustment but with the help of videos from Youtube I slowly moved into acceptance. It was especially difficult as I was so conditioned to the straight wind in hair look.

3. Instead of a big chop, you can grow your hair to a length that you are comfortable with. I consider myself to have a big head and in addition to that I have alopecia monocularis, so I thought it momentous to have enough natural hair to cover my bald spot.

4 Transitioning provides the opportunity to find styles that suit you. Thus after the transition chop there is little fuss in finding a style that works.

5. The awkward growth phase after the big chop is avoided. Often many individuals who do the big chop speak about the in between length ( moving from TWA onward). While transitioners may feel like the new growth is taking forever to grow in, those relaxed ends may serve as a little refuge for the time.

6. You control how long your transitioning process will be.

7. Transitioning gave me the opportunity to experience long hair. At the beginning of my second transitioning attempt I wanted to achieve bra strap length (bsl) before I chopped the relaxed ends off. Reason for doing this is I wanted to convince myself that if I got there with transitioning hair it would also be possible when I'm fully natural.

1. Difficulty in de-tangling

2 Breakage at the line of demarcation

3 Stringy fragile ends

4 Maintaining both textures may become a little frustrating

5 Requires patience especially if one strives for minimal breakage while de-tangling or styling".

Hope this helped!

Hello Beauties,

I know it's been a while since I posted anything on my journey. This is because I am expecting my 3rd baby and though the first trimester hasn't been easy, I am very excited about it.

So with this baby, we tracked it from day one because hubby and myself decided to add one more baby to the family so we will be complete at least.

At the moment I have two very active boys with the last one always taking energy out of me but its all good because he will also start school soon which will make me have enough time for the new baby, business, studies and myself.

As I already said from day one we monitored this pregnancy such that I had a test done after one week. The test came out negative which really made us not sure if the test aid was right because as my beloved hubby will say "I am one shot" Lol. He relates it to the bible verse that says

“For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, And do not return there, But water the earth, And make it bring forth and bud, That it may give seed to the sower And bread to the eater, So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it. (Isaiah 55:10, 11 NKJV).

So you understand he has the faith that when he decides to have a baby, there is nothing like 'trying'.
I believe what ever one wants to do, if FAITH is applied there surely will be a good return.

So I didn't bother to test again but still believed that a seed has been planted and it so happened after a month when I visited my doctor to check up because I felt so weird  The doctor looked at me and asked why I hadn't tested, all I said was the earlier test was negative so I wanted her to test because I trusted her test aid. She just smiled!

So after testing the doctor said Congratulations Jo you are 5weeks pregnant! It was as if I was aware already so I sat there just smiling.

The Diary Continues...

Three Key Steps To A Good Moisturising Routine

Hello Beauties,

Hope this post finds you well.

Today I would like to share with you how I moisturise my hair and how it has helped me.

This post is just to shed more knowledge on my first post on moisturising the hair so it's going to be simple but packed with information.

Three Key Steps are:

1. Applying Liquid; be it water, hydrating spritz which is filled with good ingredients.= L

2. Oiling; this could be a serum or any oil you love but there are some oils that will soften the hair e.g: Avocado Oil. = O

3. Cream; this is where I would like to shed some information. When it comes to the cream part, most people will use just butters. = C

= LOC.

Though this was the normal thing in my first years of going natural, when I started using a leave-in conditioner daily from my first year of being natural, my hair story changed. It got better and better.

Using just the butter will not moisturise the hair because the butter is an oil as well.
It's true the spritz or water wets the hair but you need some sort of conditioner which will soften the strands so the cuticles can close.
The purpose of a conditioner is to soften the hair strand and close every cuticle that is opened during cleansing.

1. Wet the hair with a little water or spritz especially if your hair is in a protective style.

2. Apply a little bit of a leave-in conditioner then a little bit of hair cream which is butter based because the butter protects the hair from the sun, wind and cold weathers.

3. Apply the oil at the final stage. This is because oil repels things so if you apply the oil first or second, the other products will be repelled by the oil. Since oil repels things then you would want to apply it last so it seals in the moisture you have already applied to your hair.

The Products I Use In Moisturising:

This hair spritz is fortified with Herbs, Sulphur , Aloe  Vera and many goodies. I Love It!
It solved my itchy scalp problem so it's my baby.

This leave-in makes my hair so soft and manageable.
My hair tangles a lot so a need such a product to loosen it .

This growth serum is a bum! Everyone who has tried it loves it!
It has herbs, enriched with good oils and essential oils.

All the above products are from the sheabeutimia brand. We use 100% natural ingredients  and  affordable to all.
To buy any of our products please visit www.sheabeutimia.co.uk
